I started on a new sketchbook recently. I painted quite a few background pages. That always helps me to get over looking at a white page and wondering what to do. The colored pages seem to give me ideas of what should be on them. So this first page needed some poppies.
I found a photo online that I used as inspiration and drew the poppies, outlined with black pen and painted with Inktense pencils. I love poppies and drawing flowers is always fun. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
That’s a great idea to start with a colored page. The poppies are wonderful. We don’t seem them here. Enjoy your weekend, too!
Thanks Marilyn! I almost always start with a colored page. Sorry you don’t get to see poppies.
Poppies are a joy to see and you’ve capture them so well, the golden yellow paper is a good choice, reminding me of summer wheat and barley fields where we have them in profusion.
Thanks Judith – I love the color of summer wheat 🙂
The poppies are lovely on that colour background.
Colouring the page quickly to cover the white is an excellent starting point – it seems to take the fear away.
Thanks Lyn! Not sure why we fear white paper, it seems silly but I like using the colored pages for sure.
Just stunning, they remind me of a Japanese print or maybe Art Deco. I adore the simplicity of poppies and there movement and you have captured them so well. The colours you have used also work marvellously together. Karen
Thanks Karen – you are making be blush 🙂
