Stitching Wild Flowers

I wrote a post about creating this piece over on the Felting and Fiber Studio. I have started adding a little hand stitching.

Montana Wild Flower Landscape

I have a lot more stitching to go.

Close Up of Lupines with Stitching

I plan on adding French knots to all the lupines and then perhaps add more leaf detail and detail to the Indian Paintbrush.

French Knots

I’m not being really careful with the French knots as I don’t want them to be all the same shape and size. I am using Perle cotton that I hand dyed. It’s a variegated purple thread and was perfect for this project.

What have you been working on? Thanks for stopping by!

A Little Hand Stitching

I printed this piece of felted wool blanket with thickened dye and cut pomegranates a long time ago. It was white at the time and I over dyed it at some point. I decided I wanted to start a hand stitching project as I haven’t done one for quite some time. It’s nice to have a project going that’s easy to pick up and stitch for a few minutes when I get time.

Pomegranate Printed

It is really hard to see in the photo of the entire piece, you can barely see the stitching I have done. It’s pretty subtle.

Seed Stitching

I am using tiny seed stitches to denote (of course) the seeds.

I am using wool thread that I hand dyed and I am thinking of making the piece into a notebook cover but I haven’t decided yet. Hope you have a good weekend!

The Muses of Produce

I worked all day today on stitching my caricatures that I blogged about on the Felting and Fiber Studio. I thought it would only take me about 4 hours but I kept getting phone calls and it took me all day. Sigh. So I thought I’d show you this finished piece that I am donating to an auction.

It is called The Muses of Produce and is a diptych. I made this ages ago but I finally framed it on black canvas.

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

It is from fabric that I made with my local group several years ago. We printed with veggies and fruit. The “muses” were printed with a half of a walnut or a pecan, I can’t remember which. But they looked like little angels to me.

I hand stitched with green and black thread. The patterns were made with apples, pomegranates, cabbage, peppers and onions.

There’s lots of tiny seed stitches and the outlines are done with stem stitch. These are going to be sent off to an auction soon. I wonder if they will sell or not?

Here’s a sneak peak of the stitching that I did today. I will blog about the entire piece on The Felting and Fiber Studio on Halloween. Hope it won’t be too scary for you 🙂

Putting Off Tasks

Today I did a lot of tasks that I had been putting off for a while. First, I sprayed the soles of the slippers that I made for my husband and I. This task had to be put off because it was too cold to spray before this. It was a warm, sunny day, so I took them outside. So far, I’ve done 5 coats. I think I’ll do a few more until the can runs out.

Spraying Slipper Soles

I did a little felting after that but I’ll show you that next week on the Felting and Fiber Studio blog. When I bought my Pfaff sewing machine in June 2012, I was told that I could get a free cleaning and tune up if I brought the machine in before two years was up. So I decided I should get that taken care of and also learn how to use the embroidery unit on the machine. I was offered three free classes to learn how to use the machine which I never used. So, since I was already taking the machine in, I decided I should take a class as well.

Digital Embroidery

Here’s the embroidery piece that I did during the “class”. Essentially, the woman just showed me the basics of how the embroidery unit works. I’m not sure I will use it much but I thought I should at least know the basics. The patterns aren’t exactly what I would normally use and it costs $2,200.00 to buy the software package that allows you to develop your own designs. So I guess if I do use it, I’ll be using what came with the machine.

Felt and Stitched Landscape

I haven’t gotten much work done on my felted landscape but I have started the stitching in the tree section. If you click on the photo and enlarge it, you’ll be able to see the stitching a bit better. It still needs a lot of stitching. I’m not sure why I haven’t been working on this one but somehow, I’m not too excited about it. But I’ll get it done eventually. What have you been putting off?

A Few Flowers

Here’s the next page in my little stitch book that has been a very slow work in progress.

Washer FlowersI covered brass washers with #5 perle cotton, stitched them down to the page and then added detached button hole stitch and a few straight stitches.

Here’s a little closer view.
