Goodies and Sketchbook Designs

I recently posted about Karen Straight from Big Sky Fiber Arts over on the Felting and Fiber Studio site. We do “Meet the Supplier” posts as we find suppliers that have great stuff for fiber artists and felt makers. Karen just happens to live in the same area as I do and she brought me a lovely surprise.

Gift from Big Sky Fiber Arts

And I was surprised. I had not expected any kind of gift at all. So it was great fun to open it up and see what goodies Karen had given me.

Thank you so much Karen – I can’t wait to try out the wool and ramie. Now to just find a little bit of time to play.

Black & White Design in Sketchbook

I have been doing a little bit of work in my sketchbook. These are black and white designs based on sketches or photos.

It is fun to crop an image in different ways – you see different ideas for design this way. What have you been working on?

Forum Exchange

I got a lovely gift in the mail yesterday from an exchange we did on the forum. I exchanged with Crealou from Quebec. She sent some very soft alpaca fiber and an ornament.

Exchange giftI just love the ornament, such a cute face. It made me smile and I just love the nose 🙂

OrnamentReally adorable – thanks so much Louise, I really enjoyed the exchange.

The Holiday Season

Sorry it’s been a while since I posted last. I was off to my stitch class, then I had company and it’s the holiday season. It’s getting busy at the store (that’s a good thing) but it gives me less time to do those few extra things at work that I usually do. At least I have all my Christmas shopping done except for my hubbie. He won’t tell me what he wants. Somehow, I’ve run out of ideas. Anyone have any good ideas for a techie sort of guy who loves gadgets and the newest technology? He usually just buys everything for himself so he already has it all making it difficult to find a good gift.

I have been getting goodies in the mail. This beautiful notebook cover with address book inside is from Zed. Now that I look at the photo, I think it’s upside down but you get the idea. She’s used a bunch of felt scraps and stitched them together. The closure is great.

Here’s the back of the notebook. Sorry about the distracting bit in the upper right corner. I don’t have a editing program for photos at work.

Here’s a photo of the inside. It’s perfect – Thanks Zed.

This is a photo of a scarf that I silk painted when our local surface design group met in November. Louise has a steamer so she volunteered to steam our work so it would be wash safe. This scarf is a wool and silk blend and it came out better than expected.
This was a small silk handkerchief sized piece that I put into a embroidery hoop to paint. I was just playing with colors to see how the paint worked wet on wet and on dry fabric. I think I will add some stitching to this piece.

This is a felted card from Ann. Isn’t it a wonderful winter scene?

Ann also sent this gorgeous silk that I’m sure she dyed. It’s purple and gold and I love it. I want to rush home and nuno felt a scarf with it. But I’m not sure that is going to happen any time soon. Thanks Ann!
I am so thankful to have such wonderful friends and I really appreciate their gifts and friendship. It’s amazing the number of fiber friends I have online from all over the world. Isn’t it great that the Internet can bring us all together and that we can share our passion for fiber with others from around the world? If I don’t get time to post again, I wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season. Thanks for reading my ramblings and leaving comments. I appreciate all of them.

Holiday Fiber Exchange

We had a fiber art exchange for the holidays on The Felting and Fiber Forum. Today I received my gift from Judy. It’s beyond amazing and Judy put so much work into it. What a treasure!

It’s a Christmas book. This is the front page. It is 10″x10″ without the fringe.

Here’s a close up. You can click on the photos to see a larger photo.

 Here’s the second page.

 Third page.

And the back page. Isn’t it wonderful? Thanks Judy, I love it and I appreciate all the work that went into it.

I am heading out to my stitch class next week so I won’t be posting next week. I’ll post about my class when I return.

Surprise Fiber Goodies from Karen

Look what came in the mail yesterday. Wonderful fiber goodies from Karen. What a surprise. She sent mulberry silk, merino, merino and silk blend, optim, hemp fiber, sari silk ribbons and organza yarn. The last four items on the list I haven’t experimented with yet. So fun times ahead!!

I look at this photo and just want to jump in and wallow around in the fibery goodness. Thank you so much Karen, you made my day!
