I have been working steadily on my piece for the Totem exhibition as it needed to be completed before August 15th. I finished it today including mounting it on matte board for hanging.
Here’s the finished piece. You can click on the photo to see more detail. It doesn’t really have a name yet but it is supposed to look like a “totem blanket” that has been found as an artifact.
This is “Rising Reflections” finally attached to the canvas. I have had this sitting around for a while but since I was mounting the Totem piece, I thought I should just get this one mounted too.
And this is the small landscape that I needle felted, machine stitched and then hand stitched. I don’t really like it much though. Not sure what it needs but it has been finished for a while. Not sure what I’ll do with it but I’m sure it will go in the pile of stuff that still needs to be mounted or framed.
While I was taking photos, I heard lots of crashing around behind me in the woods. I turned around and this deer went running by. At least it wasn’t a bear 🙂

Love the totem piece, there’s lots of visual movement that leads your eye around it. Also really like the mountains in your needle felted piece, I wonder if it is the white area on the right that is making you unsure of it, the white area feels like it is in the foreground but lacks the detail that you normally find in foreground structures?
Thanks Teri. Yes, the foreground tree does lack detail. Perhaps I can add more hand stitching to give it more detail so you can perhaps tell what it is. I’m not sure that is why I don’t like it but it’s a good idea.
Hello Ruth your totem blanket is very creative and pretty. I love all the stitching you did in it. I think it will be well received at the exhibition. You other felted pieces are lovely too. So I see you have “deer” roaming around too. I see them as a big challenge because they love to eat my flower gardens. Do live in a rural area… Judy
Thanks Judy. I have tons of deer as we live out about 4 miles from town. I plant only deer resistant plants such as daffodil, iris, monarda, ecchinacia, columbine, poppies etc. The deer leave them alone mostly.
In the beginning I had no idea we had village seers because we had a dog and I did not realized he kept them away, after he passed away the deer took over. We finally put a fence up around the back yard but not the front. I have winced learned about deer resistant plants.. Smile
