August TIF – Balance

Here is my piece for the August TIF challenge. I had many thoughts about this one but I wasn’t happy with any of my ideas. Then, when I was eating out at a restaurant on their patio, I looked over and there was this branch. And I thought – now that is balance. So this is the piece I made. I could tell you that each leaf represents a part of my life and some are given more importance than others blah, blah, blah… But, really I didn’t go through all that. I think that nature can show us so much and balance is one of those things. I embellished the background on recycled felted sweater and then painted a heavy interfacing for the leaves. The branch is machine stitched cord couched down by hand. The stems are embroidery floss couched down by hand. I painted the veins on the leaves.

Here are a couple of close ups.

So now I’m off to the NW Montana Fair – we usher at the rodeo. Whoopee!

  1. How lovely! The simplicity and the colors are wonderful. This month’s topic has meant nothing to me, so it’s interesting to see such a beautiful piece.

  2. I agree with the others – i love the colours, the felted background, the leaves, the composition – its a lovely piece.
