Trip to Glacier National Park

We went to Glacier National Park this past weekend. It’s about a 45 minute drive from our house and I wanted to check out the wild flowers.

Several years ago I found this patch of Mountain Lady Slippers. These are a wild orchid and this is the biggest patch of them I have ever found. They are right by MacDonald Lake Lodge but I bet the majority of people walking by never even see them.

I found a few more flowers and then I went looking for trillium. They are usually on the path at Avalanche Creek but the problem is that there is a wooden walkway and you aren’t supposed to go off the trail. So I have a really hard time getting a good photo.

Here’s the best photo I could get and it’s a little blurry. But I did get to see them. I don’t have any trillium around my house.

I also took the obligatory bark photos. I must have thousands of these by now.

Here’s the “famous” Avalanche Creek photo. So much water rushing through at this time of year.

And here are Symphony and Dennis on the board walk. It was a great day!

Finding Inspiration

We had company for the last 4 days. Our friends Howie and Janine came from Chicago. So I didn’t get much fiber art done this week. We were busy out on the lake, going to Glacier National Park and volunteering for Brewfest, a fundraiser for the SNOW Bus (runs up and down the mountain from Whitefish).

We went on a hike in Glacier National Park to Hidden Lake. It was 3 miles in and 3 miles back. Because of all the wildfires in the western US including several in the park itself, there was a lot of smoke. But it was still beautiful with plenty of inspiration to be found. Enjoy!

More Color

I have been being a tourist this week as we had company. We took a long ride through Glacier National Park and went to Many Glaciers. I had never been on that side of the park and it is really beautiful.

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAThis is a view from the back deck of the lodge there. While we were on the deck, we saw a grizzly bear up on the mountain side. It was a long ways away so I didn’t take a photo but you could see the bear really well through binoculars.

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAI mainly take photos that look like the one above when I’m in the park. I am always looking at bark, lichens and rock.

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAThere were some interesting dead trees too. 🙂

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAI finally got all my paints that I had ordered so I finished my color wheels today. I was waiting on primary cyan and primary magenta for this three primary wheel.

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAI also painted a six primary wheel today too.

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAEarlier this week, I did a bit of dyeing. My sister wanted to have one of her blouses over dyed. I forgot to take a photo but it turned out well. I had three white shirts that I never seem to wear so I thought I would ice dye them. Because I did the dyeing in a jar, the dye didn’t get all the way through the shirts. I do kind of like how they turned out. I might over dye them but I think I will wait on that right now.

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAThis is my favorite one. It was dyed with black and yellow.

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAThis one is really bright. But I guess I can wear it for Saint Patrick’s Day!
