Here is the last postcard that I made for the Art2Mail #36 exchange group. I was going to embellish the silk squares (black and tan) to the red velvet. I started this process but didn’t like how it was turning out. Since I was running short of time, I fused the squares to the velvet and then stitched a grid with gold metallic thread. I then covered the whole piece with black netting and finished the edge. The close up below shows the true colors a bit better. Now I’ve got to get back to all the other projects on my list. Watch this space!

These two postcards were made from a piece of embellished red velvet. I added brown scrim on the front, then coppery/gold silk fibers embellished from the back. I then put a silk hankie dyed with tea over top and embellished it in. Once that was completed, I free motion stitched over the entire piece. After cutting out the postcards, I had leftover bits which I zigzagged on kind of like inchies. I still have some bits left over so perhaps I’ll add them to something later.

These photos look very blue. There isn’t any blue in them really.

This one started with some already pieced scraps that I found in the bag of scraps I bought from the quilt store. I then covered it with Mistyfuse, laid on some black curly wool, novelty yarn and then a layer of black netting. I FME from the back, only to turn it over and see that the tension wasn’t right. You can’t see that here because it’s a bad photo. So I’m not really happy with this one.

This was again made with pieced pieces (the stripes) that I found in my scraps. I zigzagged them down to the base. So it looks like a lot of work but I didn’t do the hard part. But I just couldn’t waste the cute stripes that were so bright and colorful.

This last one is my favorite although it has a quite simple design. I really liked the purple fabric. I then free motioned the “twigs” onto the camel colored flannel. I keep practicing on the FME at which I’m not very proficient.

This is a technique that I learned from workshopontheweb.com by Maggie Grey. The background fabric is a wipe that I used to clean up some paint with and I then added some gold. I free motion embroidered an outline on felt. Cut the felt outline out and then zig zagged it to the background fabric. I then filled in the middle with three different colors of thread with more FME. I think it is sort of odd looking.
